Our Story

Regenerative…beyond sustainable.

The Regenerative Landscape Alliance, LLC (ReGen) is a full-service landscape contracting company. Our services include consultation, design, installation, maintenance, and management. Our team has a high degree of specialization in rainwater harvesting earthworks and rain tank systems, greywater systems of all types, irrigation systems, water management, and waterwise, native, and Mediterranean landscapes.

With a deep background in permaculture, we also love to incorporate edible, food-producing plants in landscapes that build soil carbon and are climate appropriate, productive, and aesthetically pleasing.

Fred Hunter

CEO & General Contractor

Fred earned a degree in Environmental, Population, and Organismic Biology from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and has had a lifelong focus on natural systems and life sciences. He founded and operated Dreamscape Santa Barbara from 1989 through 2017, specializing in waterwise, ecologically sustainable, and regenerative landscape practices throughout his career. Fred also serves as an adjunct faculty member at Santa Barbara City College's Environmental Horticulture Department, an instructor with Sweetwater Collaborative, and is the lead certified permaculture designer and managing partner of the Finca Alazan regenerative farm project in Playón Sur, Costa Rica.

Water & Ecological Design

An environmental steward for over thirty years, Barbara holds a Certificate in Permaculture Design (2007), is an Accredited Professional through ARCSA (American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association), a Certified Water Harvesting Practitioner through Watershed Management Group, a Certified Greywater Installer through Greywater Action, and an EPA Certified Watershed Wise Landscape Professional. She holds a BA in History from UC Berkeley and studied Environmental Horticulture at SBCC. Barbara is also a founding member and Executive Director of Sweetwater Collaborative, a local nonprofit dedicated to water-wise education.
